The Meetjesland creek area is at the top of many a nature lover's list of most beautiful natural spots in the country. Sint-Laureins and Assenede in particular can claim the title of the best creek towns of the region. At 6 km long, the Boerekreek is the largest creek in East Flanders. Not far away is the Oostpolderkreek, where you can enjoy breathtaking views from the long fishing jetty.

Sint-Jan-in-Eremo

The picturesque little white church of Sint-Jan-in-Eremo is dedicated to John the Baptist, whose life is depicted on the exterior doorway. People used to pray here against fits and epilepsy, diseases that 'St John' could cure.

Polderzicht

Taste the creeks at eel restaurant Polderzicht, which features 10 eel dishes on the menu.

Watervliet

Watervliet was voted one of the 15 most beautiful villages in Flanders, and that's all thanks to het Stee: the central village square with the majestic Our Lady of the Assumption church. Inside hangs the painting 'Nood Gods' by the Master of Frankfurt, one of the masterpieces of the Flemish Primitives.

Brasserie Niveau
