A small circuit in the Het Leen hiking route

The Leen, with its playground, cafeteria, and large forest, is a perfect hiking destination for the littlest strollers. The literal and figurative highlight is the observation tower, a 21-metre-high structure with stunning views of the domain. For the tummy-tickles!

Starting point

Node11

Are you coming by car? Then at the car park, near the cafeteria, you'll immediately find the starting point for this route, node 11.

Arboretum

Provinciaal Domein Het Leen Arboretum Eeklo.JPG

Still near the car park, you'll find the Het Leen arboretum. This is a large 'museum' of trees and shrubs that you can walk through, just like in a park. In every season, there is a different tree or shrub that steals the show.

Forest Information Centre

Provinciaal Domein Het Leen Bosinfocentrum Eeklo (2).JPG

Still more to learn? You'll find answers to all your forest-related questions at the Forest Information Centre. Explore the 'explanation' room, the permanent and temporary exhibitions, or watch a multimedia presentation. Did you know that children can win the forest gnome diploma at Het Leen? At the Bosinfocentrum (Forest Information Centre), ask for directions to the Kabouterpad!

Watchtower

Provinciaal Domein Het Leen Uitkijktoren Eeklo (2).JPG

Opposite the entrance to the Forest Information Centre, you'll find a watchtower no less than 21 metres tall. From the glass platform, you'll have a nice view of Het Leen. Not for the faint of heart!

Node 11-16

Bird-watching cabin

Up early? Then stop by the bird-watching hut from which, with any luck, you may even spot some roes, if you are very quiet.

Node 11

Cafeteria and playground

Learnt enough? Then time to play. The playground and play forest are located behind the cafeteria's terrace. Ideal for parents and children. You can satisfy a little hunger here too.

A little further ahead

Het Burgerhuis

Bigger appetites are better satisfied in nearby Eeklo, a few hundred metres beyond Het Leen. One tip is Het Burgerhuis. Here, you'll find burgers, tapas and complete meals, for young and old, to be devoured on the spot, or for take-away.
